As the temperature rises and most of us don’t have air conditioning, you will need somewhere to cool off. Here are a few spots around JBLM that will hit the spot during these warm summer months.
American Lake – Russell Landing
On North Fort you will find Russell Landing. Russell Landing offers a snack & bait shop, boat/kayak rentals, a boat launch, camp sites, picnic tables, pavilions and restrooms. There are two different beach areas to relax on and lots of activities to do. American Lake is still a bit chilly in the summer but it is not nearly as cold as the Puget Sound. Bring your favorite tube to float in on the lake! This area is also dog friendly.

2275 Liggett Ave Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA 98433
The Children’s museum on base is a Montessori style museum where the kids can play and create. There are tables and a lounge area where you can enjoy your lunch as well. Entry is donation based so you can pay what you’d like to enter (or not pay) it’s your choice.

2509 Chambers Creek Rd Steilacoom, WA
Sunnyside Beach Park is my personal favorite local beach. It is a great place to go tide pooling at low tide. We have found many crabs and small sea creatures under the rocks here. This beach is also dog friendly. Sunnyside Beach Park offers picnic tables, volleyball court, restrooms, pavilions and charcoal grills.

Bowling is a great way to exercise and an escape from the outdoor heat. Your kids can bowl two FREE games of bowling per day the entire summer. All you need to do is register them for the Kids Bowl Free Program HERE. You can also purchase a parent pass so you can also bowl free with your kiddos.
